Does This Feel Familiar?

You left school behind. But some of its rules followed you home.

You wanted homeschooling to feel freer, calmer and more natural.

But even after leaving school, you may still find yourself asking:

  • Is my child doing enough?
  • What if they fall behind?
  • How will I know they are making progress?
  • Are we following the right schedule?
  • Should learning look more structured?
  • What will other people think?

You may have left the school system, but years of school quietly shaped the way you think learning should look.

Those beliefs do not disappear the moment you start homeschooling.

That is why deschooling is not only for children. Parents need it too.

The Reframe

You are not failing at homeschooling. You are still unlearning school.

Most of us spent years being taught that learning must be planned, measured, graded and completed on schedule. We recreate school at home, not because we want to, but because it is the only model we were given.

School taught us to look for:

  • Finished worksheets
  • Grade level timelines
  • Constant productivity
  • Adult led lessons
  • Scores, rewards and visible proof
  • One "right" way to learn

Deschooling helps us notice:

  • Learning through play and conversation
  • Different developmental timelines
  • Curiosity, questions and deep interests
  • Rest, reflection and real life experience
  • Growth that cannot always be measured
  • The needs of the actual child in front of us

Deschooling helps you notice inherited beliefs, question them and replace them with a deeper understanding of how children learn.

This is learning too. Quiet, curious and real.

What Can Change

Imagine feeling calmer and more confident about how your child learns

The shift is not about doing more. It is about seeing what was already there.

  • Trust learning beyond worksheets

Recognise the learning happening through play, conversation, interests, everyday life and independent exploration.

  • Stop measuring your child against school timelines

Separate real concerns from fears created by grades, age levels and comparison.

  • Make decisions with more confidence

Choose routines, resources and learning experiences because they suit your child, not because they resemble school.

  • Respond to doubt without panicking

Meet questions from relatives, friends or your own inner critic with more clarity and calm.

  • Build a homeschool around your real family

Create an approach shaped by your child's needs, your values and your family's natural rhythm.

Introducing

The 21-Day Deschooling Journeyβ„’

This is not another curriculum, rigid method, or list of rules to follow. It is a gentle, guided experience that helps you examine what school taught you about childhood, progress, success, and learning.

You only need around 15 to 20 minutes a day. You can begin whenever you are ready.

  • A guided daily experience delivered to your inbox
  • A safe space to question old beliefs about learning
  • Research informed ideas in simple, human language
  • Reflection prompts connected to your real homeschool
  • Small, practical steps you can apply immediately
  • Lifetime access so you can move at your own pace

It is not a curriculum, a daily academic schedule, or a set of rules telling every family how to homeschool.

Before anything else

Does any of this sound like you?

You are not alone in this. Many homeschool parents arrive here carrying the same quiet fears, even when they love their child and believe in a different path.

The Overwhelmed Explorer

"There are so many options. What if I choose wrong?"

You are curious about homeschooling but feel lost in all the options and pressure to get it right.

The New Homeschooler

"I love my child. So why does this feel harder than I expected?"

You recently started and care deeply, but doubt keeps showing up in quiet moments throughout the day.

The Reset Parent

"We left school. But I think school followed us home."

You have been homeschooling for a while, but schedules, worksheets and worry still shape your days.

You do not need to have it all figured out to begin.

You do not need to identify as an unschooler to benefit from deschooling. You only need to be willing to examine old assumptions and build an approach that fits your child and your family.

Amy, founder of Homeschool Hippo, learning with her child at home

From Homeschool Hippo

I Never Planned to Homeschool.

In fact, I didn't even know homeschooling was an option.

When my son was born, I wasn't searching for alternatives to school. I was simply trying to answer one question:

How do I raise a kind, curious, emotionally healthy child?

That question led me down a path of books, podcasts, research, and conversations about childhood and learning.

And somewhere along the way, I came across homeschooling.

My first reaction? β€œWait... kids can just learn at home?”

I had so many questions.

  1. How will they make friends?
  2. Will they fall behind?
  3. Can I really teach my own child?
  4. What about college?

Honestly, it all sounded a little crazy.

But the more I learned, the more I realized something uncomfortable: I wasn't afraid of homeschooling.

I was afraid of letting go of everything school had taught me about learning.

So when we began, I did what many parents do.

I bought curriculum. I created schedules. I tried to recreate school at home.

And it was exhausting. For me. For my son. For our relationship.

Everything changed when I discovered deschooling.

I finally understood that homeschooling isn't about bringing school into your home. It's about learning to see childhood, learning, and education in a completely different way.

That's why I created The Deschooling Journeyβ„’.

Not because I have all the answers.

But because I know what it feels like to stand exactly where you are, overwhelmed, uncertain, and wondering if you're making the right decision.

If this journey can save you months (or years) of frustration and help you begin with confidence instead of fear, then it will have done exactly what I hoped it would.

Six months from now

Picture yourself six months from now

You already love your child deeply. The question is what daily life feels like when school thinking is still running the show, or when you have begun to let it go.

If nothing changes

You keep showing up for your child. But inside, the same fears keep running.

  • Another late night scrolling curriculum, hoping this one will finally feel right
  • Another quiet worry that your child is falling behind
  • Another day wondering if you are enough for this

If you begin this journey

The fear may not vanish overnight. But something shifts in how you see your child and yourself.

  • You notice learning in play, conversation, and ordinary moments
  • You make decisions with more calm and less second guessing
  • Your homeschool starts to feel like yours, not a copy of school

You do not have to wait six months to feel different. You can begin with one topic, one reflection, one day at a time.
